Getting your gas and electricity from npower but struggling to pay?
Well now they have introduced a ‘First Step’ programme of help for vulnerable customers struggling to pay their energy bills who are likely to be in fuel poverty.
“A customer is vulnerable if for reasons of age, health, disability or severe financial insecurity they are unable to safeguard their personal welfare or the personal welfare of other members of the household”. (Source, Energy Research Association)
A household is defined as being in fuel poverty where it would need to spend more than 10 per cent of its income on energy to maintain a satisfactorily warm home.
First Step includes a personal repayment plan, and debt which you have may be put on hold and some could even be written off. As well as being put on the ‘First Step’ tariff, which is npower’s cheapest, the scheme also offers energy efficiency advice and a benefits entitlement check.
