Sneak in Burglaries
Whilst Leeds has seen a significant fall in the number of homes broken into over the last few years the proportion of Sneak in Burglaries, (Where there is no forced entry) has risen. Nationally the figure is around one in three, but in some areas of Leeds this figure is as high as one in two or 50%.
The best security in the world does not prevent entry through unlocked doors or open windows. So the advice is simple, make sure you secure your property - particularly in summer months when you may spend more time in the garden or leave doors and windows open for ventilation.
In any case make sure that you leave valuables such as purses, phones, house and car keys, out of sight and away from open windows.
You should also consider marking your property so that it can be traced - making it less desirable to steal.
If any householder would like a free Property marking kit they should contact PS Ian Poskitt or Brent Brady at Safer Leeds on 0113 3950836
